We have a great opportunity for you to impart your knowledge to the next generation whilst gaining your formal teaching qualification as a Trainee Motor Vehicle Tutor.
The Motor Vehicle Tutor will deliver high-quality teaching in motor vehicle maintenance and repair to learners from Entry Level 3 up to Level 3, depending on cohort needs throughout the academic year. The role includes contributing to curriculum development, maintaining high standards of quality assurance, and supporting learners’ academic and personal progression. The post holder reports to the Quality of Education Manager.
Trainee Motor Vehicle Tutor – Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate motor vehicle courses
- Develop and maintain detailed course syllabi, schemes of work, and course documentation prior to and throughout course delivery.
- Prepare lesson plans and learning materials in advance for monitoring, observation, and quality assurance purposes.
- Provide subject-specialist teaching, advice, and guidance
- Deliver Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) within teaching sessions and provide additional learner support as required, recording outcomes on pastoral logs.
- Assess, mark, and monitor learner work in line with company marking policy, maintaining accurate progress records and preparing learners for exams and accreditation.
- Return assessed work within agreed timeframes (typically within 10 working days).
- Maintain accurate attendance registers and follow procedures in the event of emergencies.
- Monitor and evaluate course delivery, providing feedback to the Centre Head and Curriculum Managers to ensure continuous quality improvement.
- Ensure all equipment, tools, and facilities are used safely and appropriately.
- Support invigilation across subject areas and participate in invigilation training as required.
Trainee Motor Vehicle Tutor – Essential Experience
- In-depth knowledge and substantial experience in motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Relevant trade experience within an automotive repair environment.
- Ideally qualified to Light Vehicle Level 3 (or equivalent).
- Teaching qualification appropriate for the Post-16 sector, or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience teaching, training, or working with learners aged 16+.
- Strong understanding of post-16 teaching principles, including planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation.
- Ability to apply a range of teaching strategies to support learners with diverse abilities and learning needs.
- Effective oral and written communication, numeracy, and interpersonal skills (minimum Level 2 or willingness to obtain).
